Iron and copper complexation in Macaronesian coastal waters

چکیده
Dissolved iron (dFe) and copper (dCu), the concentration conditional stability constants of organic binding ligands (LFe, LCu, log KcondFe3+L KcondCu2+L) were studied in surface coastal waters Macaronesia region (Cape Verde, Canary Islands, Madeira) using competitive ligand exchange-adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry (CLE-ACSV). Two oceanic stations also studied: Cape Verde Ocean Observatory (CVOO) European Station for Time Series Islands (ESTOC). Fe varied from 0.46 to 1.32 nM LFe concentrations between 0.56 2.96 nM. More than 98% total dFe was complexed with (log KcondFe3+L) 20.77 21.90 (L2-type ligands). Cu ranged 0.07 4.03 amount LCu 0.54 2.59 nM, more 99% dCu organically complexed. The constant showed values 13.40 14.42 (L1-type). Due biological activity water mixing induced by wind around islands, dissolved metals greater at water. Variations observed eastern western parts Fogo, Tenerife Gran Canaria. On east coasts, increase related wind-induced mixing. results this study will contribute knowledge about impact areas on biogeochemical cycles.

Optical Closure in Coastal Waters
Our scientific objectives encompass both empirical and theoretical investigations. Empirical objectives are: 1) develop new instruments and methods for measuring ocean-optical properties, 2) conduct systematic coastal ocean measurements for testing closure and for characterizing optical properties and the processes related to their changes, and 3) perform laboratory experiments to investigate o...
متن کاملWater Quality in Coastal Waters
The aim of this work is to introduce the potential of satellite-based remote sensing data to agencies responsible for monitoring and managing water quality in the coastal zone of Western Australia. There exists a knowledge and/or expertise gap between satellite data providers and potential end users. This project aims to close the gap by developing a fundamental management tool that will be geo...
متن کاملMacronutrient and iron limitation of phytoplankton growth in Hong Kong coastal waters
The western side of Hong Kong possesses estuarine characteristics (from the Pearl River estuary) and the eastern side is mainly influenced by the oligotrophic South China Sea, while the southern side has intermediate hydrological characteristics. We investigated the concentrations of dissolved inorganic nutrients and limitations to phytoplankton growth at these 3 locations around Hong Kong. As ...

متن کاملEstimating labile particulate iron concentrations in coastal waters from remote sensing data
[1] Owing to the difficulties inherent in measuring trace metals and the importance of iron as a limiting nutrient for biological systems, the ability to monitor particulate iron concentration remotely is desirable. This study examines the relationship between labile particulate iron, described here as weak acid leachable particulate iron or total dissolvable iron, and easily obtained bio-optic...
